Entering through an antique wooden turn-style door causes guests to pause just long enough to be transported to the Belle Epoque spirit of the restaurant’s interior.  With its hand-blown art nouveau glass light fixtures, pressed tin, steel girders and artisan ironwork throughout, the interior communicates the building's past, and captures a timeless spirit.  Counter seating allows guests to watch the activity in the exhibition kitchen with its wood-burning oven or sit in one of the coveted window seats that perfectly frame views of the Bay Bridge.

Nancy Oakes, Executive Chef, Co-Owner

Chef Nancy Oakes has reached and sustained a level of awareness and culinary excellence held by few Chefs in America today.  Cleary, her customers have felt cared for and they have spoken: she is indeed San Francisco’s most beloved Chef. Virtually every readers’ poll of San Francisco Bay Area publications names Nancy Oakes as the most popular chef, and Boulevard as the favorite restaurant in San Francisco, including the Zagat guide for seven years in a row and the San Francisco Chronicle Reader’s Poll.  She was also one of a few restaurants to receive a coveted Star in the Michelin Guide since they started reviewing the Bay Area.  Her peers have spoken also, and in 2001 Chef Nancy Oakes garnered a tremendous and much-deserved James Beard Foundation Award, for “Best Chef in California.”  The James Beard Foundation also nominated Nancy Oakes for the “Outstanding Service Award” in 2002 and 2004 and the “Outstanding Restaurant Award” in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

In other media, Boulevard, The Cookbook, written by Chef Oakes with Co-Chef Pamela Mazzola received both the James Beard Foundation and IACP nomination for 2006 and was picked by the Amazon Cookbook Editor at the top of his favorite cookbooks in 2006.  Chef Oakes is also a regular guest on the local ABC network show, View From The Bay, and is also a frequent guest on Radio and as a public speaker both locally and internationally.  Oakes is also a regular contributor to Bon Appetit Magazine and has appeared in Fine Cooking Magazine as well as appeared in magazines around the world including Spain, Japan, Korea, Norway and New Zealand.

John Lancaster, Wine Director
John Lancaster, Boulevard sommelier, manages a 500-item wine list and maintains cellars in two locations. The essential aspect of his wine program, though, is service. Lancaster, who joined the Boulevard team in 1997 after working at the Cypress Club, tries to visit each table in the dining room during the course of the evening.

"My role in the dining experience is to provide that extra level of service," says Lancaster.
" At Boulevard, we want to offer a dining experience our customers cannot create on their own.
We want them to return again and again, so we have a wine list that works."
